artistic director, teacher, choreographer, mover
Sophie Moyer is the founder and director of Moyer Dance Collective, where she is redefining what thoughtful, fun, individualized dance training can look like for today’s dancers. With over 30 years of experience and 15 years working professionally in the industry, Sophie brings a unique blend of artistry, technical knowledge and care to everything she creates.
As a third-generation educator, Sophie was raised in the studio at the Moyer Institute of Dance and trained at Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet (CPYB) and Pennsylvania Regional Ballet. She earned a Bachelor of Arts with a double major in Dance and Sociology from The George Washington University, where she served as a board member, choreographer, and lead performer for the university’s dance company, graduating with honors and recognition for both choreography and performance excellence. In 2014, Sophie founded the Moyer Institute of Dance’s Competition Team, which has been recognized with Studio of Excellence awards for five consecutive years (2022–2026). While she is proud of these achievements, she is most proud of her dancers strong artistic focus, storytelling ability, and bravery both on and off the stage.
Beyond the competitive stage, Sophie lived and danced all over NYC for 7 years, assistant managed and taught at multi-location studios like Joy of Motion Dance Center in DC, and served as Assistant Company Director at Performing Arts Workshop in NJ. She has been on the faculty of Center Stage Dance Studio in Stamford for the past eight years, and The Dance Pointe in Greenwich for three. Sophie’s classes focus on technique, musicality, and fostering a growth mindset. She loves working with every level of dancer, from the babies taking their very first class all the way up to the pre-professional level senior auditioning for college programs. At the core of her teaching is a belief that more is not always better: dancers are challenged and supported in a way that builds strength, confidence, and artistry without burnout or unnecessary pressure.
In 2025, Sophie moved to Redding, CT with her wife, their dog, and identical twin girls, and she is thrilled to bring this high-quality, inclusive, and fun-focused dance program to Wilton.
